The Inaugural edition of the Global Super League is set to take place from November 26 to December 7. Five teams; Guyana Amazon Warriors, Lahore Qalandars, Hampshire Hawks, Rangpur Riders and Victoria will take part in the competition.
10 matches will be staged in the league stage, followed by the final on December 7. The Providence Stadium in Guyana will host all the 11 matches in the tournament.
Giles White, the director of Men’s Cricket in Hampshire, said that the competition shows Guyana’s “ambition to become a global sporting destination”. The championship has a prize money of 1 million US dollars.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has sanctioned the Global Super League, which is “fully supported” by the Guyana government, a major stakeholder in the competition.
The tournament, however, could clash with Bangladesh’s Test series against West Indies and the Abu Dhabi T10 league. Pakistan are set to tour South Africa for a multi-format series in November and hence, Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi’s availability is also in doubt.
Shaheen is the captain of the Qalandars while Babar played for Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024.
