The Red Force head coach said that Evin Lewis will be ruled our from the CG Super 50 tournament.

West Indies opener Evin Lewis suffered an injury during the T20 World Cup in Australia and the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force has ruled him out of the upcoming matches of the CG United Super50 Trophy.

Lewis was one of four T&T players to return from the World Cup, with captain Nicholas Pooran, left-arm spinner Akeel Hossain and all-rounder Yannick Kariya the other three joining the force for their Super50 campaign.

Asked if the left-handed opener will be ready for tomorrow’s game against Region A leaders Windward Islands Volcanoes, Red Force head coach David Furlonge said he is out for the rest of the season with a minor injury.

“He still has a little injury and we will not be including him for the rest of the tournament.”

When asked for further clarification on Lewis’ injury, the Reds coach explained

We have a squad of 18 and he is basically out, so we don’t have to call a replacement player right now. It is a precautionary measure because we don’t want to risk it and he comes in and then it gets worse.”

“When the Test players leave after this round, then we will have to pick a final 14. The selectors will meet tomorrow (today) and make a decision,

Also, Anderson Phillips, Joshua de Silva and Jaden Seals are scheduled to join the West Indies Test team in Australia after the third round of the Super 50 series.

When asked about Shannon Gabriel not completing his ten-over spell on Wednesday after returning from injury, Furlonge said it was a precaution.

“Gabriel took 4 wickets for 42 runs in 9 overs on Wednesday. He bowled three maidens and was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with Sunil Narine taking 3 for 17 from ten overs. Narine also bowled two maiden overs.”

Despite the loss to the Harpy Eagles, T&T are still second in Zone A with a high net percentage thanks to a comfortable 7-wicket win over Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) on Monday night.
