Jamaica Scorpions are champions of the 2022 CG Insurance Super50 after a three-wicket victory over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the final at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua on Saturday.
The Scorpions won the toss and decided to bowl first and the Red Force openers Kjorn Otley and Amir Jangoo combined for 46 runs to build a successful partnership. However, in the 13th over, Jangoo was dismissed by Scorpions skipper Rovman Powell for leg before wicket.
Otley was dismissed for 33 off Jeavor Royal and Royal again managed to remove the experienced Jason Mohammed for three runs in the 19th over.
Then, Dennis Bulli succeeded in the 5th ball of the 21st over to remove Red Force’s crucial wicket Darren Bravo for 14 runs. Red Force skipper Pooran, who completed 100 runs in the 26th over, was removed by Odean Smith in the 27th over.
Yannic Cariah and Akeal Hosein combined to take the Red Army to 150 in the 36th over before Cariah was dismissed by Nicholson Gordon for 43.
A six by Sunil Narine off Pete Salmon in the 45th over brought the Red Force to 200. In the same over, Salman took the eighth wicket of Scorpions, while scoring 206 runs, he dismissed Akeel Hossain for 37 runs.
Gordon claimed his third wicket when Narine fell for 12 in the 46th over with 208 on the board. The Red Force were all out for 217 runs in 47 overs.
Nicholson Gordon finished with 3-51 from 8 overs and got good support from Jeavor Royal 2-22 from four overs and Odean Smith 2-29 from six overs.
Scorpions openers Brandon King and Chadwick Walton failed to get off to a good start and in the sixth over, Brandon King was caught by Shannon Gabriel for 12 runs. However, Walton and Andre McCarthy combined to bring Jamaica to 50 in the 11th over.
In the 20th over, Walton, who scored the first half-century of the tournament in 60 balls in the 20th over, was dismissed by Cariah for 80 runs. McCarthy scored his first half-century in the tournament and 13th in List A cricket yesterday.
McCarthy was bowled out for 55 in the 35th over in a total of 155. Four overs later, while scoring 172 runs, the Scorpions were bowled for three by Khary Pierre for the fourth wicket.
Skipper Powell fell for 25 in the 44th over and the Scorpions needed just 18 more runs from 39 balls to win. With the Scorpions needing 14 more runs off 29 balls, Dennis Bulli was out by Terence Hinds for 2. In the next over, Pete Salmon fell for 11 with just 8 runs from 23 balls to win.
A six and a single in the 47th over Odean Smith take the Scorpions to victory. The Scorpions won their first CG Insurance Super50 Cup title since 2012 last night after beating Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

Chadwick Walton was the man of the match with 80 runs, while Scorpion skipper Rovman Powell was the tournament’s top scorer with a total of 344 runs and man of the series.
