The Government of Guyana has expressed an interest in having visa-free travel to Canada and Canadian High Commissioner Mark Berman said that the two governments are discussing this.
This was disclosed by Canadian High Commissioner Mark Berman to members of the media last evening on the sidelines of a welcome reception for a Canadian trade delegation in Georgetown.
“It is something we are looking at and we will make a decision,” Berman said.
Additionally, several Canadian airlines are being engaged to offer service to Guyana. Currently, Caribbean Airlines is the only company with a direct service between Georgetown and Toronto.
Guyanese citizens have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 88 countries and territories.
The United Kingdom recently removed its visa requirement for Guyanese travelers wishing to stay in the country for up to six months once they meet specific requirements, which include having access to enough funds to support their stay.
Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Hilton Todd and Fabrizio Nicoletti, Non-resident Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Italy to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, held a talk regarding around removing the visa requirement for Guyanese.
