The regional team played 52 international matches last year out of which they won only 15 matches and lost 34 matches.
Here, the Caribbean team, which faced 21 ODI matches, managed to win 04 matches and lost the remaining 17 matches. However, out of 07 matches, Kraigg and the Test team managed to win three, lose two and draw the other two matches.
The two-time World Twenty20 champions crashed out of this year’s Twenty20 World Cup in the preliminary round following heavy defeats to Scotland and Ireland. The former World T20 champions have lost 15 of the 24 T20 matches played this year and won only 08.
Accordingly, Guyana and West Indies left-hand batsman Shimron Hetmyer also could not dominate the field as he wished and even had to face some incidents. However, he was successful off the field and he became a father last year.
In an exclusive interview, Hetmyer talked about fatherhood, the lessons he’s learned over the past year, and what he’s looking forward to accomplishing this year.
“So far, fatherhood has been lovely. I am really enjoying it, actually. (There are) not enough words to explain how great it feels to actually come home and see him smile. To see him light up when he actually sees your face, and (he is) always laughing. I think that is something he took from me. So far it has been really nice, and I am really enjoying it.”
In May last year before the birth of his first child, he joined the Rajasthan Royals franchise of the IPL global event. Hetmyer said the Rajasthan Franchise helped him a lot when he suddenly came home and returned to India.
“The guys at Rajasthan were over the moon, and they really did a great job in actually bringing me home and taking me back to the IPL. I came back really fast, but it was really nice to have the support of the team that you are playing for.”
Hetmyer is in good demand in franchises around the world, so he spends a lot of time away from home. But he said he sees his wife and child through video calls.
“I think his mom is doing a great job…making sure I am always there, or just calling me on video call so that I am seeing him and to make sure he is okay, and to see his face, and for him to never forget me; because kids, as they grow up, they tend to remember certain things and forget some.”
“So, I try every time I leave home, that we talk as much as possible. even if he does not speak, we give him the opportunity to actually see my face, just to make sure he is happy. Happiness is one of our biggest things.”
In 2022, the Warriors skipper played eight matches for West Indies, scoring 131 runs in seven innings. As the Guyana Amazon Warriors captain in the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL), he scored 281 runs to help the team reach the semi-finals.
Apart from that, his best season in IPL was 314 runs in 2022 with an average of 44.86 and a strike rate of 153.92. He explained about the year 2022.
“Cricket was good. I had my ups and downs as all cricketers have, but it was more learning than anything else in 2022. Mainly with the captaincy in CPL, to see where I am at with that,”
“And I think, so far, it has not been bad. A lot of learnings to take place from that. To maneuver bowlers, and where to put myself to bat, and try to make sure everyone is happy. I am trying to get more of that into 2023 as well.”
