The next phase of the West Indies four-day Championship is scheduled to start on March 15, and the Harpy Eagles squad was named sunday.
Accordingly, West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul, senior left-arm spinner Antony Adams and young Kevlon Anderson are replacing Chandrapaul Hemraj, Akshay Persaud and Ashmead Ned in the squad.
Shimron Hetmyer was named in the Berbice squad for the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Inter-County Four-Day Championship but did not make the cut. Accordingly, Javed Karim was appointed for that gap instead of him.
However, in a press conference, Chairman of the Guyana Senior Selection Board, Ramnaresh Sarwan, speaking about Hetmyer, said that it is difficult to talk about him.
“I think it is difficult to answer for Hetty. The Board (GCB) has a policy. Once you play inter-county, you will be eligible for Guyana selection.”
Also, the chairman said that he had been spoken to several times and that he could not be forced to play domestic cricket.
“In terms of if ‘Hetty’ wants to play local cricket that is totally up to him. I don’t believe as a selector I can force him to do that. I have spoken to Hetty numerous times before.”
Commenting further, Sarwan said that he is a mature person so he should know how to make the right decisions.
“I think Hetmyer is mature enough to make the right decisions, and he has to know what he wants.”
Apart from that, Chairman Sarwan also shared his views on Sherafane Rutherford and emphasized that Rutherford should be in the ODI lineup.
“Sherfane is someone we would like to have in our one-day line-up and whenever that time meets, we will be able to reach out to him and ask him in terms if he will be available to play for Guyana in that format.”
