The West Indies team has currently toured South Africa for a full series where they will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) yesterday announced that former West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree will join the squad for the three One Day Internationals (ODI) and three T20 Internationals (T20I) from March 16 to 28 (for assistant coach).
Jimmy Adams, CWI’s director of cricket, said West Indies’ slow bowlers would be of great value as well as world-class support.
“I’m happy that Samuel is going to be spending time with our white ball teams in South Africa. He brings plenty of international experience and a strong desire to assist our slow bowlers in becoming world-class.”
“We believe this combination makes him ideally placed to add tremendous value to our support staff in South Africa, and specifically for our slow bowlers.”
Badree is a two-time T20 World Cup winner and He played a vital role in both T20 World Cup winning campaigns in Sri Lanka in 2012 and in India in 2016. He played 52 T20Is and picked up 56 wickets between 2012 and 2018 – during which time he was the world’s Number 1 ranked bowler in the T20 format.
Also, he has been the Spinning Coach of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020, Assistant Coach of Dubai Capitals in the inaugural ILT20, and has previously worked with CWI.
Badree expressed his happiness over the appointment and termed it as an extension of his association with West Indies Cricket.
“I worked in the IPL previously and with CWI for some time now and I recently came back from Dubai where I was assistant coach of the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. This is really an extension of my collaboration with Cricket West Indies and I look forward to working with our team as we try to get the better of the Proteas.”
“I have a very good relationship with the players and I believe I can add value to this group based on my experience and skill set. I am thrilled to be given this opportunity.”
