‘women should have an equal part to play’ – Sir Clive Lloyd wants investment in women’s cricket

Australia defeated South Africa by 19 runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 final, at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town last month.

West Indies Women end T20 World Cup with wins against Ireland and edging out Pakistan by just 3 runs in Group B matches in South Africa.

Chasing a target of 117, Pakistan were restricted to 113/5, with Aliya Riaz top-scoring with 29 off 23 balls.

Earlier, West Indies posted a total of 116/6 after opting to bat first.

West Indies legend Sir Clive Lloyd has issued the call for the next president of Cricket West Indies to put his attention towards female cricket.

During a segment on the Mason and Guest radio show, the former West Indies skipper compared Australia’s cricket structure for women and recommended something similar be done within the context of the Caribbean Islands.

“One thing that I would like to see is more involvement where the women are concerned, and if you have ever seen the Australian system they have about 2000 women playing cricket. I am saying we should be in the same situation. Most of our islands should be involved, women should have an equal part to play.” He said
