IND vs WI; Ian Bishop gives nicest reply to ‘West Indies needs to be abolished’ comment after series win

Ian Bishop won hearts once again with the most dignified response to pre-series comments on how the concept of West Indies cricket had ran its course and must be “abolished” to allow the Island nations to walk alone and revive cricket in the region.

Brandon King’s superb unbeaten 85 led West Indies to an eight-wicket win over India on Sunday to secure a 3-2 victory in their T20 series.

Set a target of 166 to win the fifth and deciding contest, in Lauderhill, Florida, West Indies reached their target with two overs to spare with Nicholas Pooran scoring 47 in a partnership of 107 with King.

This idea and walk-alone concept had picked up steam on social media in the aftermath of West Indies’ disastrous failure to qualify for the 2023 World Cup at the qualifiers in Zimbabwe and further gained vocal supporters when the Indian team mauled the Calypso Kings in Tests and ODIs.

Bishop choose to take those who called for the West Indies abolishment to task in his own calm and composed way, letting them know the idea pains him, besides him finding it rather unrealistic and unsustainable.

Bishop’s response came during a post-match show following India’s eight-wicket loss in Florida on Sunday (August 13), with the former West Indies quick reminding fans and so-called experts how the game eventually humbles everyone.

“I saw some tweets on social media about the state of West Indies Cricket from my friends and colleagues. I would want to remind them that when your friend is hurt, you don’t say get rid of them. You try to find out how to help them. Leave it,” Bishop said, making his point absolutely clear without being nasty. Unlike those who peddled the idea of abolishing the West Indies.

    • Not only business people my friend. They were Guyanese who called for it too, even suggesting that Guyana should apply to play as an individual state as they were far better than this unit.
Look Shepherd had his career best figures so did Brandon King(Jamaican) have his highest score. Pooran bruised and battered surely put the Indians off their game plan throughout the series.
In other words am saying that we may not always like the team selected but they represent us.
      “Rally ….round the West Indies”

  1. Regardless of who say good or bad nice or ugly once EAST INDIANS cricketers feel pressured by the bigger dwags things will not be regular. Every one have feelings and words from the horses mouth who chooses to slander a wicket keeper bats man lately. The humble man returned him in black and white bearing his name after making a century. Actually all the comments in favor of Vivian Richard so tell me MR .BISHOP is that the way you all motivate your team?
