“I feel really proud” – Imran Tahir proud of Amazon Warriors’ Performance

Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Imran Tahir said he was proud of the way his team performed in their 88-run win over the Barbados Royals on Sunday at Providence.

The win confirmed the “Amazon Warriors” place at the top of the table and eliminated the Barbados Royals from the 2023 tournament.

The Amazon Warriors will face the Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifier 1, while the St Lucia Kings will take on the defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs in the Eliminator.

“It was a great game. We got the start we wanted. We wanted to bat first and put ourselves in a challenging position. Good to see the guys who came in perform and to see the youngsters hungry. I feel really proud,” Tahir said after the match.

Guyana Amazon Warriors totaled 226 for 7 to set a new record for the highest Warriors’ score in CPL history.

Meanwhile, Rovman Powell, who won the CPL title with the Tallawahs last year, said his Royals team had a tough season in 2023.

“All the plans that we came up with were not properly executed. When that happens, you will struggle. Lots of positives, lots of guys who put their hands up in patches,” Powell said.

“For me personally, the highlight was Cornwall scoring a hundred in Barbados. We have built some friendships, bonds that cannot be broken easily,” he added.

CPL moves to the play-off stages next week as Guyana Amazon Warriors face Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifier 1, while Saint Lucia Kings take on Jamaica Tallawahs in the Eliminator.

Summarized scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 226/7 (Hope 106, Anderson 47; McCoy 2/36, Holder 2/50) beat Barbados Royals 138/6 (Clarke 54, Brathwaite 18; Tahir 3/23, Motie 2/11) by 88 runs.
