Left-handed batsman Sherfane Rutherford scored his maiden List A hundred on Monday, as he powered the Guyana Harpy Eagles to a four-wicket win over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in their CG United Regional Super50 encounter at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.
Leeward Islands posted 244 for 6 in their 50 overs with Karima Gore (54) and Jahmar Hamilton (54 not out) getting half-centuries.
Veerasammy Permaul (2/40) and Romario Shepherd (2/45) were the main wicket-takers for the Harpy Eagles.
Guyana got 32 apiece from Tevin Imlach and Kevlon Anderson before Rutherford produced a scintillating 71-ball which contained seven fours and eight sixes.
The left-hander’s brutal assault gave Guyana victory with 15 balls to spare.
Guyana with the win bounced back from a 114-run loss to T&T Red Force, to inflict the first defeat on the Leeward Islands for the tournament.
The Harpy Eagles have moved back to sixth place with seven points from two games, while the Leeward Islands have fallen to second place in the table with 21 points.
The CG United Super50 Cup resumes on Wednesday with three matches on tap.
The Guyana Harpy Eagles play the Combined Campuses and Colleges at UWI SPEC, while the West Indies Academy face Jamaica at the Queen’s Park Oval.
The Windward Islands will also take on Barbados at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
