Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Shimron Hetmyer took a stunning catch to send back Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Piyush Chawla off the bowling of Avesh Khan as in their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.
The incident happened in the first ball of the 12th over, as Avesh Khan bowled this wider on off and on a length.
Piyush Chawla stayed rooted at the crease and extended his bat looking to cut it over backward point.
He did get it off the middle of the bat towards the right of Shimron Hetmyer at backward point but the West Indian had other plans. He timed his jump to perfection and stretched out to his right and takes an absolute screamer to send him back.
It was the 100th catch for Shimron Hetmyer in T20 cricket.

Earlier, RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl against Hardik Pandya’s MI as Trent Boult tore through their batting line-up.
This is Mumbai Indians’ 250th game in IPL and the first home game of the season after they lost their first two away matches to Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. This is the first away match for Rajasthan Royals after they defeated Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Mumbai Indians enjoy a slight edge when it comes to the head-to-head series between the two teams. They have won 15 out of the 28 matches played between them while Rajasthan Royals have bagged 12 wins — one match was abandoned without any result.
