Cricket enthusiasts around the world still marvel at the incredible batting feats achieved by legendary West Indies cricketer Brian Lara. Among his numerous records, Lara’s monumental scores of 400* in Test cricket and 501* in first-class cricket stand tall as two of the greatest individual batting performances in the history of the sport.
One of the all-time greats of the world game, Brian Charles Lara came into the West Indies team in 1990, batting at number four behind a top order of Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson. All greats in their own right, but Lara would go on to outshine them all, ending his career with 11953 runs, a world record at the time of his retirement in 2006.
Lara named some of the best players he has ever played. It was divided into two parts, those who played before him and those who played in his era.
He mentioned the past stars Sir Garry Sobers, Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Don Bradman, pointing out that it is difficult to name one and accordingly, he commented to Star Sports,
“The Greatest of All Time has to be. different eras. I am someone who finds it very difficult to have an opinion on the Greatest of All Time when there are so many good ones. I mean, back in the day, of course, Don Bradman. Let me give you a few – Garfield Sobers, a great all-rounder, Sir Vivian Richards, a great batsman.”
He also said that Sachin Tendulkar was the best batsman of his era and Jacques Kallis was the best all-rounder.
“Then, in my time, you had guys like Jacques Kallis, all-around ability, Sachin Tendulkar, a great batsman. So, quite a few. I think I love, really appreciating each player for what they brought to the game.”
