Pakistan skipper Babar Azam became the first batter to knock three successive one-day international hundreds twice as he anchored a five-wicket win over the West Indies in Multan on Wednesday.

Ranked number one batter in both limited overs formats, Azam cracked a brilliant 107-ball 103 with nine boundaries to help Pakistan overhaul a tough 306-run target in 49.2 overs.

Opener Shai Hope knocked 134-ball 127 for his 12th one-day international century to help the West Indies post an impressive 305-8 their highest against Pakistan in Pakistan.

The win gives Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the three match series and 10 crucial points in the ODI Super League, a qualification process for 2023 World Cup (50 overs) to be hosted by India.

However, Shai Hope slammed a brilliant century against Pakistan in the first ODI at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The Windies opener hit 15 fours and a six, striking at 94.78.  He now holds 12 hundreds and 20 fifties in this format.

Hope and Shamarh Brooks had added 154 runs for the second wicket after Kyle Mayers departed early.

West Indies Opener Became a Third-joint fastest to Reach 4,000 ODI runs on Wednesday. Hope has got to 4,000 ODI runs in 88 innings.

With this, he has equaled Sir Vivian Richards’ tally to become the joint-third fastest to 4,000 ODI runs. Hashim Amla (81 innings) and Babar Azam (82 innings) are ahead of Richards and Hope.

Hope’s top-notch innings resulted in him breaching 4,000 runs in ODIs. The talented batter has raced to 4,026 runs in 93 ODIs at 52.28.

As per ESPNcricinfo, he has become only the 11th Caribbean batter to score over 4,000 runs in this format. He has compiled 1,900 runs in away conditions, averaging a prolific 65.51. In 2022, he has amassed 288 runs at 96.00.

“I wish I could have got a bit more hundreds but the key is just to make sure I capitalized on my form. At the moment I think I’m bought him pretty well. So just about trying to get the most runs for the team. Give us some targets for the borders to defend.” Shai hope to Media at after the 1st innings break.

Hope’s jaw-dropping innings got him past 6,000 runs in international cricket. He now has 6,056 runs across 150 matches at 37.15. He has notched 14 hundreds and 27 fifties.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Hope has become only the 16th batter for West Indies to reach the 6,000-run mark across international formats. He surpassed Dinesh Ramdin’s tally (5,734) earlier this year.
