West Indies and Bangladesh are all set to square off in a two-match Test series with the first match set for Thursday, June 16 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
The series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021 – 2023.
West Indies currently sit in sixth place on the World Test Championship table and badly need to win against Bangladesh at home and pick up some points to have any chance of featuring in next year’s final.
The West Indies Test team will be led by Kraigg Brathwaite. Shakib Al Hasan will lead the Bangladesh Test team.
Bangladesh last played Sri Lanka in a series at home. In a two-match Test series, both teams faced off.
The West Indies, on the other hand, In their last Test series against England, West Indies secured a 1-0 victory and will look to continue the momentum.
But They will strive to put their previous ODI defeats to Pakistan behind them.
The hosts will also be without the services of senior all-rounder Jason Holder as he has requested for a break.
Moreover, fast bowler Kemar Roach has also not been picked in the squad as he sustained an injury while playing in County Championship in England. Roach will now have to undergo a fitness test to get featured in the red-ball outfit.
The 12-member outfit includes three uncapped players in the form of wicketkeeper batter Devon Thomas, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and fast bowler Anderson Phillip. Notably, Thomas, Motie, and Phillip have all already debuted for West Indies, but in the white-ball formats.
With the Jason Holder is set to miss the series, Kemar Roach remains uncertain with his fitness and the in-form Shamarh Brooks doesn’t find a place in the Test side.
