“We know Rovman’s history, Our role is to look at future leaders as well” – Lead selector Haynes on Powell’s vice-captain Role

Rovman Powell is a Batsman for the Westindies team and he is one of the favorite players of the team amongst Cricket fans.

This experienced player is part of team WestIndies where he starts his ODI debut on 16 Nov 2016 against Sri Lanka and his last match against India.

He total plays 45 matches and makes 897 runs with a strike rate of 83.06 and takes 3 wickets with an average of 91.87.

In the T20 format, he starts his debut against Pakistan on 26 March 2017 and the last match is against Pakistan.

He totals playing 47 matches and makes 760 runs with a strike rate of 137.93 and takes 4 wickets with an average of 33.0.

In the IPL format, he debuted on 27 March 2022, against Mumbai Indians and the last match is against Mumbai Indians on 21 May 2022

Rovman Powell has been announced as the new vice-captain for the T20Is. Lead selector, Desmond Haynes said:

“We know Rovman’s history. He has captained the West Indies before and is also the captain of his CPL franchise. Our role is to look at future leaders as well and we have identified a few, including himself, who we will be putting programmes around to ensure we keep them involved in that aspect of the cricket.”

 “Generally, we have to start looking at the bigger picture of getting these players playing together as often as possible in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup later down in the year. We need to ensure we are fielding a very strong side for that tournament.” Haynes added
