34-year-old West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has signed with Yorkshire for the County Championship. He will play in the Yorkshir CCC’s next three LV= insurance county championship games. Accordingly, plays against the three teams of Surrey, Somerset and Hampshire.
Gabriel has taken 318 wickets in 118 first-class matches and 161 wickets in 56 international Test matches for West Indies.
Interim Managing Director of Cricket Darren Gough said he was delighted Shannon had joined Yorkshire.
“We are delighted to have signed Shannon for the next three County Championship matches and are very much looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in a Yorkshire shirt.”
He further said that his pace will be an asset to the team in the coming matches and he is confident that he will perform his duties properly in the coming months.
“With two of the next three games coming at Scarborough, which has been one of the quickest surfaces in the country for a number of years, his pace will be a real asset to us.”
Gabriel’s addition will add valuable experience to an attack that has relied heavily on young bowlers Dom Bess, Jordan Thompson and Matthew Revis alongside Steven Patterson.
“I think it’s fair to say supporters at North Marine Road will be entertained watching him and I’m sure he will play his part in bringing us some success over the next month.”
Accordingly, two West Indies players will represent Yorkshire this year, Dominic Drakes instead of Shadab Khan and Gabriel Yorkshire instead of Haris Rauf (pakistan).
