West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to field against India in the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday. Senior India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has ruled out of first two ODIs after sustaining a knee injury.
Pooran informed that all-rounder Jason Holder is down with COVID-19 and will miss out, while Kyle Mayers was included in the playing XI after his recovery from an injury.
India opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill. Both of them looked comfortable from the very first over and raced to their respective half-centuries in a jiffy.
Both of them added 119 runs for the first wicket in just 17.4 overs before Gill was run out. Gill would be disappointed by the way he got out as he looked set for a big score.
The pair added 96 runs for the 2nd wicket before Shikhar Dhawan in trying to slash a ball wide outside off-stump was caught brilliantly by Shamrah Brooks at backward point.
Dhawan had timed the ball nicely, and it was flying but Brooks’s anticipation was brilliant as he jumped at the right time to pluck the ball out of the air and got WI their 2nd breakthrough.

Dhawan missed his century by just 3 runs. It would have been his first century after the one he hit against Australia in the 2019 WC.
The knocks of Shikhar Dhawan (97) and Shubman Gill (64) helped India post 308 for 7 in the first ODI of the three-match series against West Indies on Friday.
