IND vs WI 1st ODI Highlights: Shepherd and Hosein whose valiant partnership goes vain as India Win In Last-Ball Thriller

Team India registered a thrilling 3-run victory over the West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday at Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad on Friday.

The home team was kept in the chase by Shepherd and Hosein whose valiant partnership was in vain.

Earlier, West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to field against India in the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday and India scored 308 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was unfortunately dismissed for 97 runs. His 99-ball innings included 3 sixes and 10 fours.

Shubman Gill scored 64 Runs and Shreyas Iyer scored 54 Runs.

In bowling, Alsari Joseph and Gudakesh Motie took 2 wickets each.

In reply, West Indies were looking really strong at 133 for 1 during the 309-run chase but India bounced back and stayed in the game till the end to bag the nail-biter by a narrow margin of three runs.

Kyle Meyers, who was the highest scorer in the West Indies innings, scored 75 runs (68). His innings included a six and 10 fours.

Brendan King scored 54 Runs (66) and Shamar Brooks scored 46 Runs (61). Aqeel Hossain scored 32*, while Romario Shepard scored 39*.

The West Indies needed 15 off the final over for a record chase at Queens Park Oval but Mohammed Siraj was able to stop a rampaging Romario Shepherd (38 not out off 25).

At the top of the order, Kyle Mayers (75 off 68) and Shamarh Brooks (46 off 61) raised West Indies’ hopes with a 117-run stand for the second wicket before Brandon King (54 off 66) took the game deep. In the end, the West Indies fell short and ended at 305 for six.

Shardul Thakur had struck twice earlier in the chase to bring back India into the game as he removed the Mayers and Brooks.

Mayers played a few spectacular strokes in his innings, including a one-legged pull shot off Siraj.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran (25 off 26) came in and punished Prasidh Krishna with two flat sixes over deep square leg and deep midwicket.

In bowling, Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Yuzvendra Chahal took 2 wickets each.

Accordingly, India has taken the lead 1-0 in the 3-match one-day series between the two side.

“Feels like a win for us. Bittersweet, but yeah we keep talking about batting 50 overs and everyone saw what we are capable of and hopefully we can go strength to strength from here. Looking forward to the rest of the series. It was a good batting track and our bowlers did a commendable job to restrict them. It’s difficult to lose but we will take this one. We need to believe in each other and I keep telling everyone that we will have our challenges, but important to focus on the positives.” said West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran in a post-match presentation.

Brief scores: India 308/7 in 50 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 97, Shubman Gill 64; Gudakesh Motie 2/54) beat West Indies 305/6 in 50 overs (Kyle Mayers 75, Brandon King 54, Romario Shepherd 39*; Shardul Thakur 2-54) by 3 runs.
