“This is a big question” – sir Vivian Richards questions the effectiveness of “backroom staff” as Players continues to struggle

The West Indies suffered a crushing 59-run defeat to India in Lauderhill on Saturday, falling to an 1-3 series defeat in the five-match series

Opting to bat, India posted 191 for five, riding on a solid batting display with Rishabh Pant (44 off 31 balls) emerging as the top scorer. Rohit Sharma (33) and Sanju Samson (30) also chipped in with useful contributions.

Obed McCoy (2/66) and Alzarri Joseph (2/29) took two wickets each. In reply, WI could manage 132 all-out in 19.1 overs. Arshdeep Singh (3/12), Avesh Khan (2/17), Axar Patel (2/48) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/27) claimed two wickets each for India.

Meanwhile, Vivian Richards questions the effectiveness of “support staff” in the current West Indies squad.

According to Sir Vivian, some players continue to struggle with the same issues that have plagued their game for some time now.

“What I think is one of the more interesting things about West Indies Cricket at present and this is a big question. Are we getting enough of the best information from the backroom team? That’s a big question because whatever information you get from [backroom staff] it should transfer onto the field and we are not seeing this at present,” he said.

“This ODI team is a talented team in terms of all-round ability, so something is not gelling at the moment and I believe we have to start asking some questions,” he added

Brandon King (13) and Kyle Mayers (14) both got starts but fell cheaply while captain Nicholas Pooran sprinted to 24 off just eight balls before he was run out after a mix-up with Mayers.

Rovman Powell with a quick 24, Shimron Hetmyer (19) and Jason Holder (13) were the only other batsmen to reach double-figures as the Windies 132 all-out after 19.1 overs.

Also, West Indies have now lost three ODI series on the trot after defeats against Pakistan and Bangladesh.
