WI T20I Squad announced: “we have a ‘finisher’ who can add value and win matches” Dr Desmond Haynes on Shimron Hetmyer’s Return

India takes on the West Indies in the first of the five-match T20I series in Tarouba, Trinidad on July 27.

India won the ODDI series against the Windies 3-0 and will head into this series as the number one ranked T20I side.

Windies are placed sixth on the rankings table. The final two games of the series will be played in Lauderhill, Florida.

West Indies (CWI) today annouced 16 players for the upcoming T20I Series against India and for the three-match T20 International Series against New Zealand.

The Selection Panel recalled left-handed batter Shimron Hetmyer. The T20I series comes as a big opportunity for the fringe players in the side who are included in the side to stake a claim for T20 World Cup selection.

“We welcome back Hetmyer and it is good to see him again in West Indies colours. He will fortify the batting group and with his experience and adaptability we have a ‘finisher’ who can add value and win matches for the team and delight the supporters.” West indies Lead Selector, Dr Desmond Haynes said

“Everything we do, we have to take into consideration we have a big tournament coming up later this year, which is the ICC T20 World Cup, so we are planning and gearing up towards that event. It is good to give the players some exposure to the international stage and look to find the right combinations.” Dr. Haynes added
