The 2022 T20 World Cup is a few days away and teams have been playing practice matches against each other. Accordingly, the West Indies won the match against the Emirates and the second match was abandoned after not bowling a single ball.
Accordingly, West Indies’ first matches of the Twenty20 World Cup 2022 will begin on the 17th against Scotland, and on the 19th and 21st, the second and third matches will be played against Zimbabwe and Ireland.
There have been some minor changes in the West Indian squad the players named Charles and Cariah were recalled and some senior players were dropped. A few days before the start of the tournament, an unexpected change happened. That team’s veteran left-handed batsman Shimron Hetmyer missed the flight, so Brooks was sent to Australia instead.
However, there are some talented batsmen as well as talented bowlers in this squad. Accordingly,
01. Yannic Cariah
Cariah is the most debated player in the 2022 World Twenty20 squad. That’s because he hasn’t played a Twenty20 game in so many years.
However, Cariah has played 04 T20 matches and the most special thing is that he has not played any T20 match since 2016. But in the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, he got ODIs and was impressed with the bat and ball on his international debut.
Chasing 213 to win the second ODI against the Kiwis, Yannick came to bat when the West Indies collapsed at 27 for 6. In the face of a humiliating defeat, he fought bravely scoring 52 runs. Also, despite taking only three wickets in the three matches of the tournament, he showed good control and variation in his leg spin to trouble the opposition batsmen.
Also, in the completed two-match series in Australia, he took just one wicket in the first match of his quota of 15 runs, taming a disastrous batting line-up.
Cariah previously played for the West Indies Under-19 team in the 2010 ICC World Cup in New Zealand and captained the West Indies up-and-comers when they won the CG United Super50 in 2019. Accordingly, he will play the role of the main spinner in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.
02. Sheldon Cottrell
Fast and muscular, the Jamaican soldier has earned a reputation as a fearsome bowler whose angle causes problems over and around the wickets, along with his slingy actions. Sheldon Cottrell has a unique style of celebrating after a wicket which has attracted many cricket followers around the world.
One of the best players in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup with 12 wickets for West Indies, Cottrell has missed the last few matches. Cottrell, who was one of the most promising players in the inaugural season of the CPL in 2013, has been with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the CPL for almost ten years.
The left-arm fast bowler, who has taken 159 wickets in 130 T20 matches, has been a front-line bowler in West Indies’ pace unit in this tournament.
03. Obed McCoy
McCoy has been in considerable form for the West Indies these days but has been caught under attack at some times. However, in the last few matches, he has played the role of a regular in the set-up as well as a pure match-winner.
McCoy is a specialist death bowler and has a lot of variety in his bowling arsenal. He can bowl slow yorkers with precision along with off-cutters that can trouble the batsmen. He has played 69 T20 matches so far and has taken 103 wickets at an average of 19.48 and an economy of 8.48.
McCoy managed to take 17 wickets in the last 10 games he played. Although he does not have much experience in T20 World Cup his combination of balls will make a difference to the team in Australia’s fast pitches.
