CPL 2022, GAW vs JT, Qualifier 2 Highlights; Shamarh Brooks Ton powers Jamaica Tallawahs to CPL final

Jamaica Tallawahs has entered the Finals of the CPL 2022 after a 37-run victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 2.

The Amazon Warriors won the toss and opted to field first and that seemed to be an excellent decision after they reduced the Tallawahs to 37/2 in the PowerPlay.

Then Brooks and Rovman Powell Built together a 55-run stand off just 35 deliveries.

Once Powell was dismissed, Brooks strung together another big stand – this time with Raymon Reifer – worth 52 runs off 39 balls.

The Tallawahs added 105 Runs in last 5 overs. The last over itself accounted for 26 Runs.

Raymon Reifer was dismissed for 22 to leave the Tallawahs 123/4 at the start of the 16th over.

However, Imad Wasim walked out and smashed four fours and three sixes for his 15-ball 41 in the company of Brooks, as the pair hit 103 off the last 29 deliveries As no one thought.

Odean Smith, who bowled the final over, went for as many as 26 runs. With that, Tallawahs took their total to a season-high 226/4 in 20 overs.

Shamarh Brooks produced one of the all-time great CPL innings with an unbeaten 109 came off 52 balls.

The chase was always going to be hard going for the Amazon Warriors and so it proved.

If the Amazon Warriors were to chase the 227 to win, they needed a lightning start in the PowerPlay and they got that putting up 62 runs.

but also lost three wickets inside the PowerPlay as they went after the high asking rate.

That wasn’t to be as Chris Green, who ended Shai Hope’s breezy 13-ball cameo worth 31 runs, saw the back of Shakib Al Hasan in the eighth over.

Keemo Paul and Shimron Hetmyer added 38 off the next 28 deliveries before the latter fell for a run-a-ball 15.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as the Tallawahs bowlers put the pressure on the Amazon Warriors.

Although Keemo Paul produced good innings of 54 from 37 balls no one else was able to stay with him.

Imad Wasim was the star turn leading the bowling unit with 2/25.

The Tallawahs victory means they will now contest their third Hero CPL final and both themselves and the Barbados Royals will be looking to secure their third CPL title.
