“We’re not defending champions anymore’: Windies T20 Captian Pooran told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s first T20I

Australia and West Indies would be involved in two T20I games before the 2022 T20 World Cup.

West Indies will target to spring a surprise in T20 WC. They are now considered underdogs. Hence, they will be under less pressure at the event. If they can utilize the talent in the squad, they can surely go on to defeat some tough teams. For that, they first need to do well against Australia.

“We’re not coming here as the defending champions anymore” West Indies White ball captian added

“We obviously had a bad World Cup last year. Starting from the bottom, we have to obviously take the harder road first, which is qualifiers and is our number one priority at the moment.

“We understand that we don’t have as much experience in the room,” said Pooran.

“But we have been playing cricket together for the entire year, so we do understand each other a little better now. The culture is just all about love, being a family, actually looking out for each other and being in this together.

“This entire year, we have been through ups and downs. We’ve been all over the world. We’ve been losing cricket games, we have been winning games and we have been we have been performing as a group.” and,

“We have stuck together and we are here today and we’re here to fight again.” he concluded
