“I’ll continue to work hard and enjoy playing cricket ” – Kieron Pollard Becomes First Cricketer to play 600th T20 games

Former West Indies White ball Capitain achieved this landmark during his side’s London Spirit’s match against Manchester Originals during the ongoing The Hundred tournament at Lord’s.

He became the first cricketer to play 600 T20 matches on Monday.

After announcing his retirement from international cricket in April this year, Pollard has been participating in many T20 leagues across the globe.

Pollard has represented many T20 teams/franchises, most notably West Indies, domestic team Trinidad and Tobago, Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League (IPL), Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades in Big Bash League, Dhaka Gladiators and Dhaka Dynamites in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan Super League, Trinbago Knight Riders in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) etc.

In International T20 cricket, Pollard had played 101 matches, scoring 1569 runs and taking 42 wickets. His last appearance in T20 internationals was vs India at Eden Gardens on February 20, 2022.

Pollard turned 35 in May, shortly after his international retirement, and has been struggling for fitness and form. Since the start of the year, he’s averaging 25.92 and striking at 123.05 in T20 cricket, pedestrian numbers by his lofty standards.

He was due to play the Blast for Surrey but managed only six games before he was ruled out through injury, and needed surgery on his knee to recover in time for the Hundred.

after his 600th match in T20 Cricket, “It’s an achievement in itself, 600 games in any format,” he said. “I’ve never set out to play this many games or to play this format for this period of time, but it’s something that came along and I’ve enjoyed it so far. Let’s see what happens as I go forward. I’ll continue to try and work hard and enjoy playing cricket with a smile on my face. As long as the body holds up, I’m going to see how long I can go.” he added

Meanwhile, Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah congratulated Kieron Pollard on his 600th T20 appearance on Tuesday.

“600 games! What a milestone Amazing achievement for an amazing player! Congratulations Polly @KieronPollard55,” tweeted Bumrah.

Pollard has some brilliant overall T20I stats. He has scored 11,723 runs across 600 games at an average of 31.34.

He has the best individual performance of 104. Pollard has scored one century and 56 half-centuries in the format.

He has also captured 309 wickets with the best bowling figures of 4/15.

Behind him are players Dwayne Bravo (543 matches), Shoaib Malik (472), Chris Gayle (463) and Ravi Bopara (426).
