The Guyana Amazon Warriors is a franchise cricket team which participates in the Caribbean Premier League.
Although the Guyana Amazon Warriors is one of the most consistent teams in the CPL, having reached the finals four times and finishing third on two occasions out of the six CPL seasons so far, they have never been able to win the title.
But Left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie is confident that the team will make up for their past mistakes this year.
“We had like a couple of weeks of training sessions back home. Coaches put in a lot of work, local players went there. So we had some good simulation sessions leading up to the tournament. So we are really confident right now.”
The 27-year-old Motie said his teammates are not feeling any pressure to win their first CPL title.
“I think we have a good team, a young team mixed with the senior players and every year is a challenge “
“All players and coaches with the captain, Personally, I’m looking to play my role, looking to get wicked and get my own job in the field” he said
Also, Motie said his goal for the tournament is to perform to the best of his ability since he is coming back from an injury.
“Personally, once I get the opportunity to play, I’m looking to make a big impact with both bats and balls and on the field. So I’m looking to be among the wicked, takers and given an opportunity.” he added
The tournament is scheduled to start on Wednesday, August 31 with last year’s champions St Kitts & Nevis Patriots taking on Jamaica Tallawahs.
The competition will run slightly longer than last year, with the final being played a month later on Friday, September 30.
