Star West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has hinted that he is still available for the Caribbean side according to a recently concluded Interview with gulf news.
Jamaican-born cricketer Andre Russell is regarded as one of the best all-rounders in the game.
He bats in the middle order and is considered as one of the most powerful strikers and is one of the fastest bowlers among the current generation of players.
Russell hasn’t featured for the West Indies since last year’s ICC T20 World Cup in Dubai, but the veteran could be in line for a swift return to international cricket Next Year (2023).
He has represented several franchises in the Caribbean Premier League, Indian Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, Pakistan Premier League, and Australia’s Big Bash League. He recently hit six consecutive sixes for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 6IXTY tournament.
The all-rounder was honest to accept that the money he earns from franchise cricket is lot more than what he would get paid playing for West Indies.
“What I am getting to play this game now, I know in another 10, 15, 20 years players are going to get ridiculous money when they play this game. I am not going to worry about a mediocre player getting $3 million to play IPL. A long time ago when IPL just started, players used to get may be half a million dollars. They are now saying, I am better than this player and got just half a million. Times change. Half a million back then was a lot of money, you could have purchased four properties with that money,” said the Jamaican.
Despite all these, playing franchise cricket across the world and making money for a comfortable living for himself, after his playing days, and for his children, the outspoken all-rounder is yearning to wear the Maroon colours again.
When the interviewer asks Are you available for the West Indies? he said,
“Definitely, definitely. I am 34 and I know my game and I have the experience. I think I know what to do at certain times, crucial moments of the game. I have played over 400 Twenty20 matches across. That’s a lot of experience,” he concluded.
Russell has played 67 T20Is and has been a part of both West Indies’ successful T20 World Cup winning teams as a two-time winner of the coveted trophy in 2012 and 2016.
