Half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel helped Team India win the second ODI of the three-match series against West Indies by two wickets here at Queens Park Oval stadium in Port of Spain on Sunday.
West Indies lost control of the match despite posting a huge total on the board themselves.
India have now taken a winning 2-0 lead in the series. Struggling at 79/3, a 99-run stand between Iyer (63) and Samson (54) provided stability to their innings.
In the end contributions from Deepak Hooda (33) and Axar Patel (64*) proved to be extremely vital in taking the visitors to a win.
Alzarri Joseph finished as the pick of the bowlers with 2/46. Mayers also got two wickets. Shepherd and Hosein got one each.
Earlier, Shai Hope’s century (115 runs off 135 balls) helped West Indies set a 312-run target for India.
Nicholas Pooran’s 74 off 77 also played a crucial role in taking Windies to the total of over 300 after Nicholas Pooran won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the game.
Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers started confidently for West Indies..Hope along with Kyle Mayers kept West Indies on top despite but In the 9th over of the inning Deepak Hooda broke the opening-wicket partnership. Hooda dismissed opener Kyle Mayers on 39.
Shamarh Brooke then made 35 before falling to Axar Patel, caught in slips by Shikhar Dhawan. In the next over, Dhawan took another catch, this time off Yuzvendra Chahal to send Brandon King back for a duck.
Two wickets in quick succession had helped India bounce back in the game. This happened after Shai Hope scored his 21st ODI fifty.
Later, Axar Patel got the better of Shamarh Brooks. West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the game.
Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 54.
