India on Friday defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in the second T20I and Win the series 0-2 with one match remaining at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Chasing a target of 187, West indies At 59/2 in the ninth over, They needed something special from their Batters in the middle order to revive them. And they found two saviours in the form of Pooran and Powell.
Pooran, having already scored a fifty in the first game, Unfortunately West Indies were restricted to a total of 178 for three, despite fighting half-centuries from Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran. Powell (68*) and Pooran (62) added 100 runs for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
West Indies had earlier lost the wickets of Brandon King 22 (30) and Kyle Mayers 9 (10 ) with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi taking a wicket each.
Earlier, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl, India posted a challenging 186/5 as Virat Kohli (52) and Rishabh Pant (52 not out) scored half-centuries, Venkatesh Iyer (33) partnered Pant down the order as India managed to get 88 runs in the last seven overs for the India
while Roston Chase took three wickets for the Caribbean side while Sheldon Cottrell and Romario Shepard took a wicket each.
In the 2nd T20I match between India and West Indies, Windies batter Rovman Powell scored an unbeaten 68 off 36 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes and brought his team to the brink of victory but in the end, couldn’t cross the line.
Kieron Pollard said at the Post match presentation: “ He (Powell) was phenomenal today. His partnership with Pooran almost got us over the line. We did well to take it as deep as we can. We can look at different ways as to how we could have gotten those 8 runs. At the end of it, we can look at so many ways. He (Chase) has bowled well. He came in and showed us something. Again he delivered for us. We can’t just call batters out. Was a very good game. We sort of rectified our mistakes from the previous games.”
