IPL Auction 2024: RCB spend big on West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction has begun in Dubai with 333 players going under the hammer as the 10 franchises look to strengthen their squads before the upcoming season.

The first player for grabs was West Indies T20I captain Rovman Powell, who was sold to Rajasthan Royal for INR 7.4 crore. Harry Brook went to the Delhi Capitals for INR 4 crore.

Alzarri Joseph, the WI fast bowler, enters at 1 crore. CSK open the bidding for Joseph. He played for JSK in the SA20 last season. DC jump in and compete with CSK for Joseph.

Joseph could be a fine back-up for Pathirana or perhaps even start ahead of Pathirana. But DC aren’t letting him go easily. DC in front at 3 crore.

Oh hello! New bidder: LSG jump in as the bid passes 4 crore and then 5 crore. LSG in the lead at 5.2 crore.

He was once a 13th round pick in the CPL, but here he is in demand in the IPL. Can hit speeds north of 140kph and can bowl two bouncers in an over. LSG have taken the bid up to 6.4 crore.

Joseph now attracts a bid from Andy Flower. The pair worked together at St Lucia Kings in the CPL. Joseph has quickly become a millionaire. The bid hits 10 crore.

LSG and RCB battle it out for Joseph. RCB back in the lead at 11.5 crore. Whopper! CSK deliberate. They don’t have enough money. Joseph sold to RCB for 11.5 crore
