West Indies added senior pace bowler Kemar Roach to their squad ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh on Thursday in Antigua.
Cricket West Indies said on Wednesday that Roach had made a full recovery from the injury.
Roach, who had sustained an injury while County Cricket for Surrey. But he had been passed fit for the 1st Test against Bangladesh in a massive boost for the home side.
On the eve of the first Test, Cricket West Indies confirmed that Roach passed a fitness assessment and was added as the 13th player of their squad for the two Tests against Bangladesh.
He is the West Indies’ leading current wicket-taker in Test matches with 242 wickets in 71 matches.
with the Jason Holder and Shannon Gabriel will be unavailable for the series, Roach could likely pair with Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales and Kyle Mayers in the pace quartet of the West Indies bowling attack.
West Indies head coach Phil Simmons said Roach has the charm to inspire youngsters in the team and the addition of the 33-year-old is a major boost for their side.
He is also the leading wicket-taker at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium with 43 wickets.
His career best figures of 6-48 came against Bangladesh in 2009, while his best figures at the venue are 5-8 which also came against Bangladesh in 2018.
“It’s brilliant that he’s fit for the Test match, He’s always an inspiration for the younger players we have here and he’s ready to go.” West Indies coach Phil Simmons said.
“With 250 wickets around the corner, we’re happy with what he brings to the table, not just on the field but in the dressing room as well.” he added
The teams will play a second Test beginning June 25 at Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.
