The Indian team’s dominance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 led to Ramiz Raja comparing the Rohit Sharma-captained side with the dominant West Indies team of the 1980s.
Rohit Sharma-led Team India is unbeaten in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023, having won 8 games in a row, including 302-run and 243-run wins over Sri Lanka and South Africa respectively.
The Men in Blue were the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the ODI World Cup 2023 and will finish the league stage at no.1 on the points table.
After witnessing India’s ruthless and fearless cricket at the ongoing CWC 2023, 1992 World Cup winner Ramiz Raja compared Rohit’s team with the fearsome dominant West Indies side in the 1980s led by Clive Lloyd .
Raja said that the Indian team is by far the best side in white-ball cricket. Notably, the West Indies won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979 and remained one of the most threatening teams in world cricket throughout the 1980s.
Now, India’s relentlessness with the ball and the batting firepower reminded Raja of the dominant West Indies team in the 1980s.
Ramiz Raja was quoted as saying by Star Sports: “In white-ball cricket, by a long way. Also, from a batting genius perspective, they have got a list of great players. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul. From bowling aspect as well, they are relentless and clinical.”
“I compare them to the Windies of the 80s. Obviously, the West Indies had more firepower with the ball, as far as speed was concerned. But when it comes to threatening the opposition with one-way traffic, with big margin wins, they are quite comparable,” Raja added.
