During the ODI series between Sri Lanka and West Indies, Rutherford, a former player for RCB, played really well, drawing attention ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
After not doing well in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Rutherford came back strong in the ODIs. He scored a total of 204 runs, with an average of 204, and was out only once.
In the first ODI, he scored 74 not out off 82 balls, 80 off 82 in the second ODI, and a quick 50 not out off just 26 balls in the third ODI. Even though his team lost the series, he stood out as the best player.
Before this series, Rutherford played in CPL but had to leave after playing only four matches due to personal issues.
He was also part of the KKR team that won the IPL earlier this year, though he did not get any game as there were plenty of big players ahead of him, including Phil Salt, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Mitchell Starc.
He has also played for Delhi Capitals and RCB before joining KKR in the IPL, appearing in seven matches for DC in 2019 and three for RCB in 2022, which was the last time he played a match in the IPL. His IPL numbers might not show how good he is, but he has done well in other leagues and now in international cricket. He has played 24 T20I matches and scored 396 runs with a strike rate of 146.12. In domestic T20 matches, he has played 149 games and scored 2,439 runs with a strike rate of 134.45.
Rutherford is sure to get more opportunities, as he is a dynamic, hard-hitting batter capable of making an impact in the middle order from the very first ball. With IPL auction coming closer, recent performances of his make him a player who franchises should watch out for.
