Test sensation Shamar Joseph sign Peshawar Zalmi for the PSL 2024 season

A day after taking a career-altering 7/68 at the Gabba, Shamar Joseph has been signed by the Peshawar Zalmi. The new cricket sensation shocked the world a couple of weeks ago when he claimed the wicket of Steve Smith on his first ball in Test cricket.

He followed that up with his maiden five-haul in the same Test and announced himself to the world. However, that turned out to be just the start. After getting his toe broken and bloodied by Mitchell Starc, Shamar Joseph returned on Day 4 of the AUS vs WI 2nd Test, took a 7-fer, and helped the West Indies win their first test in Australia in 27 years.

The announcement was made by the PSL on their social platforms.

Earlier, Zalmi owner Javed Afridi posted a franchise shirt with Joseph’s Test wickets (13), from his debut series in Australia, printed on the back of a Zalmi jersey.

The 24-year-old bowled an epic spell to hand his side a win in a Test in Australia since 1997. It was also their first win over Aussies since 2023.

Shamar Joseph has played just two T20 matches, both of which occurred in September 2023. After being picked up by the Guyana Amazon Warriors to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, he played two matches but failed to impress and was eventually dropped.

The pacer will now be in action for Dubai Capitals in the ongoing UAE’s ILT20.

Earlier today, several supplementary and replacement players were added to the six PSL squads during the Replacement Draft that took place over a conference call on Monday.

Peshawar Zalmi, announcing their replacements, drafted Waqar Salamkheil in the silver category for Lungi Ngidi, who was not available for the whole season.

Fast bowler, Khurram Shahzad will be partially available, with pacer Arshad Iqbal named as his replacement, in silver category. Gus Atkinson is set to replace Noor Ahmed who is not available to Peshawar Zalmi due to international commitments, meanwhile they have reserved their pick for the replacement of partially available Naveen ul Haq.
