West Indies legend Kallicharran to launch book – check more details

Alvin Kallicharran, the legendary former captain and batting maestro of Guyana and West Indies, will celebrate his 74th birthday on March 21, 2023 in a most memorable way.

Accordingly, he returns to his hometown of Port Morant in Berbice for the official launch of an illustrated children’s book celebrating his cricketing journey.

Authored by Tony McWatt, the son of the late former Guyana and West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman, Clifford ‘Babyboy’ McWatt, the Alvin Kallicharran Guyana’s Pocket Dynamo Caribbean Cricket Superhero Illustrated Children’s Storybook chronicles Kalli’s cricket career, from the humblest of beginnings to his finest hour, his 1975 Inaugural ICC World Cup thrashing of Australia’s legendary fast bowler, Dennis Lillee, at England’s Oval.

Published as a 32-page full-color illustrated paperback, the book will be officially launched on Tuesday 21 March 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Port Morant Portuguese Quarter Community Center at a special event hosted by the Berbice Cricket Board to celebrate Kalli’s 74th birth anniversary.

During the launch, hundreds of copies of the book will be presented to the Berbice Cricket Board, courtesy of Laparken Canada, for subsequent distribution to school-aged cricketers in the province.

Besides while in Berbice, Kallicharran will also conduct a two-hour coaching session for the state’s young cricketers. The training session will be held on Monday 20th March from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground.
