West indies are due to play three One-Day Internationals and five T20I matches in order to prepare for the T20 World Cup Down Under in the October-November period.
India are currently engaged in a three-match ODI affair with England in their own backyard. At this stage, the series is tied at 1-1 with the final match scheduled to play on Sunday (July 17) at Old Trafford in Manchester.
On the other hand, West Indies defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the T20I series but suffered a ODI Series 3-0 whitewash by the Bangladesh at home.
Today, West Indies Cricket board (CWI) have named a 13-player squad for the three ODIs against India. but Senior players like Shimron Hetmayr, Evin Lewis, Fabian Allen, sheldon cottrell.. haven’t been named for the ODI leg of the Series.
However, The Selection Panel recalled experienced all-rounder Jason Holder, who returns to the squad after missing the Bangladesh Series to help manage his workload after this year IPL .
Anderson Phillip and Romario Shepherd are the only dropped players from the squad that faced Bangladesh. however, Lead Selector Haynes is confident of his team doing well after Jason Holder’s return.
Lead Selector, Dr Desmond Haynes said:
“As we all know Jason is one of the leading all-round cricketers in the world and we’re happy to have him back in the team. He will be refreshed, re-energized and ready to go and we can expect to see his brilliance on the field as well as meaningful contributions off the field as well.”
“We had a very challenging three matches against Bangladesh in Guyana so we will be looking to rebound when we face India in the conditions in Trinidad. We have seen some growth among some players, but overall we need to regroup and play better against the Indians.” Haynes added
All three 50-over matches will be held at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, with the first match to kick off on July 22.
