West Indies will tour Zimbabwe for two Test matches in February 2023. Both Tests will be played in Bulawayo – the first from February 4 to 8 and the second from February 12 to 16.
Shortly afterward, they will embark on a full tour of South Africa that includes two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
The West Indies team was named last Tuesday for the Test series and several players were called back.
Trinidad and Tobago fast bowler Shannon Gabriel and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican and Gudakesh Motie have been called up to the West Indies Test squad after more than a year’s absence, the CWI men’s selection committee announced on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Caribbean Test squad’s departure for Africa tours, CWI has officially confirmed the Team Management Unit who have been selected to support the interim coach Andre Coley for the next couple of months.
Former West Indian pacer Kenny Benjamin has been appointed as the bowling coach of the West Indies cricket team for the upcoming tour of Africa. and talk about what he looking forward to most about that upcoming tour,
“well first let me say thank you very much when I look at the responsibility and my role is basically to go and assist the bowlers obviously we have to have a discussion as to how I can help. I think that is very important. These guys are professionals. And they would have their plans and their personal goals and team goals. So I think I’m more just like a guide. Someone who can assist in terms of the help that they would need.” newly appointed West Indies fast bowling coach Kenneth Benjamin said
As well as He talks about his work with emerging players recently. What’s the difference he thinks between coaching at that level and coaching at this elite level.
“Well, I think when you coach at the academy you know a lot of what you’re doing is getting guys ready for that international level. So obviously you’ll be doing a lot of teaching in terms of what they should do so that when they get to that level.
The expectations. You know when you coach at the international level. It is about more dialogue. And people you know conversating as to what is required. You know the team requirements. How we going to achieve the team requirements these players surely should be complete at that level.
Obviously, we know that is not it but most of them have a very good idea as to what is it that they want to do at the international level.” former fast bowler added
And mention about relationship with Andre Cole. they work together at that academy level.
“Well, definitely I think Andre is very open-minded. He’s one who is not going to look over his shoulders once he has someone on board at him. I think that is because he believes in them and I think I’m looking forward to continuing the work that we started in the academy. I think to get we make a good team and I’m just looking for good things in terms of supporting him.” he said
West Indies will be locking horns with Zimbabwe and South Africa in two separate bilateral series in the coming two months.
