‘Draw qualities from your father’- Guyana Cricket Board congratulates Tagenarine Chanderpaul on his maiden call-up

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel named West Indian legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s son Tagenarine Chanderpaul in the Men’s Test squad for the upcoming series in Australia on Saturday.

West Indies will be under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite and will face the hosts in two Test matches at the Perth Stadium (November 30 to December 4) and the Adelaide Oval (December 8 to 12).

The selection panel named one debutant in Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the left-handed opening batter, a statement by Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) said,

“The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) congratulates Tagenarine Chanderpaul on his maiden call-up to the West Indies Test squad. Tagenarine, who is the son of former West Indies batting prodigy Shivnarine Chanderpaul, made his First-Class debut against Leeward Islands in 2013 and has to date accumulated 2,669 First-Class runs, including five centuries and 10 fifties with an average of 34.21.

The 26-year-old Chanderpaul also had outstanding performances during the recent West Indies/Bangladesh A team tour, recording 109 not out and 49 in two First-Class matches played.

The President and Executive members of the Guyana Cricket Board would like to extend best wishes to Tangerine Chanderpaul and encourage him to draw from qualities that made his father a great batter of Guyana and West Indies soil.”
