Former West Indies veteran coach Roddy Estwick has been picked up by the Barbados Cricket Association, more than a month after West Indies Cricket released him.
The 61-year-old, a former Barbados fast bowler, will take up his new role in the BCA’s coaching staff.
Estwick was a member of Phil Simmons’ support staff, and the Trinidadian served as the West Indies men’s head coach for the last three years as bowling coach.
Phil Simmons announced his resignation as head coach after the West Indies were knocked out of the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. Accordingly, he stopped all activities with the West Indies after the Australia tour in December last year.
The CWI subsequently decided not to renew the contracts of Estwick and batting coach Monty Desai.
Accordingly, Andre Coley has been appointed as interim head coach of the West Indies team for the next two tours, and former West Indies player Kenny Benjamin will be the bowling coach. In addition, Brian Lara has been hired as a performance consultant.
A popular figure among players, Estwick has previously served as West Indies Under-19 head coach, West Indies women’s assistant coach, and Caribbean Premier League franchise Barbados Royals.
