Here’s the IPL 2022 Schedule: CSK to face KKR in IPL 2022 opener

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the complete schedule of the Indian Premier League 2022.

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 26.

As many as 10 teams will battle it out for the ultimate glory over the course of two months with the final set to be played on May 29.

With only just three weeks to go, the BCCI announced the schedule for the much-awaited tournament and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opener.

The 10-team IPL season will get underway on March 26 with a marquee battle between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, a repeat of last year’s final, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The BCCI had earlier announced that there will be 70 league matches in the 10-team season as two new teams with Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans joining the bandwagon.

The matches will be played across 4 Venus in Mumbai and Pune. The final of IPL 2022 will be held on May 29.

The matches are set to be played in a different format this year with the BCCI ditching the old format of each side playing the other twice in the league stage.

10 teams are divided into two groups, A and B, based on the number of titles won and the finals played.

Accordingly, Group A comprises of Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and new entrants Lucknow Super Giants.

The other five teams, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and new entrants Gujarat Titans, are part of Group B.

March 28 will mark the first appearance of IPL newcomers Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, who take on each other at the Wankhede stadium.

The first double header of the season will be held on March 27, with Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians to face off in the afternoon game, at the Braboune stadium, while Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will feature in the second game at the DY Patil stadium.

There is set to be a total of 12 double header days, with six double-headers on Saturdays and six on Sundays.

“There will be 12 double headers in total with the first match starting at 3:30PM IST. All evening matches will start at 7:30PM IST,” the IPL said.

“In all, 20 matches each will be held at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, 15 matches each at Brabourne and MCA International stadium, Pune.”
