“Hetmyer must look at the other captains and see the kind of role they are playing,” – commentator Joseph Reds Perreira

So far in the Hero Caribbean Premier League 2022, Barbados Royals is in first place after winning 7 matches, while Guyana Amazon Warriors are at the bottom after winning only one match.

For the Warriors, Shimron Hetmyer scored 137 runs and Heinrich Klaasen scored 112 runs, the only two Warriors batsmen to score more than 100 runs so far this season. Also, Tabraiz Shamsi took 8 wickets for the Warriors team and Shepherd took 6 wickets.

Veteran cricket commentator Joseph Reds Perreira, commenting on the tournament, said Guyana skipper Hetmyer should look at other captains and learn what role they play as a leader.

“Hetmyer must look at the other captains and see the kind of role they are playing, and ensure that they limit their dangerous shots and bat as many overs as possible. When you look at Miller and Powell, that is the responsibility of a captain.”

In the previous match against TKR, the GAW bowlers managed to tame the massively destructive TKR batting lineup. They allowed only 150 runs for 8 wickets in the allocated 20 overs. However, the Warriors were bowled out for 124 runs in 17.5 overs.

Perreira, who commented further, stated that the Amazon Warriors batsmen should apologize to the Warriors bowlers. That was due to a dangerous team being limited to 150 runs.

“The batting owes the Amazon Warriors bowlers an apology.  They silenced the massive TKR crowd. The sea of red had very little to cheer for, but the batting never seemed to have the discipline to come to terms in what could have been a major win.”

The veteran cricket commentator further spoke about the mistakes GAW made and the changes that needed to be made. Accordingly, he emphasized that the Blackwood team should be given a chance.

“I think most of the batsmen threw their hands away. Hemraj had a start and needed to capitalize.  He was ahead of the game.  Many of his dismissals have been because of picking up the wrong line and length. I would not want to see a similar shot again by Keemo Paul, it was something he would want to forget, and Odean Smith was not far away.”

“Going forward, I would like to see Blackwood in the team. I don’t think Ingram is the right number three.”

However, in yesterday’s match against Barbados Royals, according to the Duckworth–Lewis method, Shimron Hetmyer and the Warriors suffered a bitter defeat of 29 runs.
