“His mother has been ill” – Sangakkara hails Obed McCoy for ‘superb commitment’

Rajasthan Royals have been impressive in the IPL 2022 and Obed McCoy has played a vital role in the team’s campaign so far taking 10 wickets from Six matches so far.

Sangakkara revealed that the RR player’s mother has been ill, and despite the adversity, he has performed brilliantly in the key game against RCB.

Rajasthan Royals on Friday entered the final of Indian Premier League with a 7 win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Qualifier 2 here.

Jos Buttler top-scored for RR with 106 not out as they chased down the target of 158 with 11 balls to spare.

Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack deserves its due credit for restricting Royal Challengers Bangalore to a below-par score in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Qualifier 2.

With the ball, the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy put in a super show at the death.

McCoy has had to overcome an emotional barrier to deliver a superlative show with the ball for RR.

McCoy was extremely tidy with his bowling, giving away just 23 runs in his quota of 4 overs while also picking up three important wickets of Faf du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, and Harshal Patel.

After the match, RR’s Director of Cricket Operations, Kumar Sangakkara revealed how hard it was for the West Indies paceman to focus on the game considering the health issues his mother has been going through back home.

“McCoy’s mother has been quite ill in the West Indies, and he’s had to deal with all of that and even though he was focused and outstanding tonight,” Sangakkara explained.

In the first three games he played, Obed McCoy bowling economy were high as 11.18, 17.33 and 8.75.

However, Last week McCoy said that Lasith Malinga has helped him a lot in the nets after taking a couple of wickets in the match against CSK.

“I think it was a better bowling performance from me. My line and length were better. I bowled less wides and had more control over everything. Overall, it would be seven or eight, maybe.” he said in the post-match presentation.

“Malinga helped me in the nets. He was telling me to be just consistent. Don’t try to overthink, use your variations and be smart for each ball.” He added

Rajasthan Royals will now meet Gujarat Titans in the final on Sunday.
