Bangladesh won the one-day international series by 3-0 after beating west indies in the third ODI at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday.
Batting first, West Indies were restricted to 178 all out and Chasing 179, the hosts did not give the visitors a chance to get it so easily, and they won the match by scoring 179 for 6 in 48.3 overs. Motie 04 wickets for 23 runs.
The fact that the batting was at a very poor level was the main reason for the loss of the tournament. They were restricted to 149 runs in the first ODI, 108 runs in the second ODI and 178 runs in the third ODI.
Captain Nicholas Pooran, speaking to the media after the match, was not very happy with the pitches.
“I don’t know if the captains have any say in preparations of pitches but I guess it’s not that difficult to see that we want good cricket pitches. You don’t need scientists to see that.”
He said that whenever batting pitches are available in local matches, they play very well as a team.
“We know for a fact that every time we do get good batting pitches in the Caribbean, we as a batting group have been doing well. Not only batting wickets and better cricket pitches but a 9.30 am start is challenging with a lot of moisture on the wicket.”
Also, the toss was not in favor of the West Indies in this series and in the previous ODIs as well. The captain was of the opinion that it was also a factor in losing the series.
“And that has been our biggest challenge for us. The toss has not been in our favour for the last six ODI games in the Caribbean and we’ve lost all six and I believe that the toss played a big role.”
He also said that there is no problem if anyone joins the team and they should take wickets with the new ball, take wickets in the middle overs and try to bat 50 overs.
“It doesn’t matter who you bring into the team, they’re going to struggle on wickets like this. But we need to work on getting wickets with new ball, getting wickets in the middle and as a batting group, try to bat 50 overs. That’s the game plan for us.”
In the third match, Nicholas Pooran scored 73 runs off 109 balls and scored his 9th ODI half-century. However, he said that he is not satisfied with that half century due to losing the match.
“We weren’t looking at any target. We just tried to assess the wicket as fast as possible and then we would have tried to make a decision. Our goal was to bat 50 overs and fell short by one over today.”
He said that even if he doesn’t score, he is batting well.
“I was not getting the scores but I’ve been batting really good. Yes I might feel good that I scored some runs but we just lost a series 3-0 so it doesn’t really matter to me. I feel I have been contributing a lot with the bat in different formats as well.”

“I’m a bit relieved that I got a half century after some games and I’m looking forward to more. But it was more important for us to win it.”
Guyana’s fast bowler Keemo Paul contracted Covid-19 before the start of the tournament and collapsed a hamstring on Saturday, the captain said. He said his loss was a huge loss.
“I definitely felt that we had a really good chance. We knew the wicket would have gotten better as well. But losing Keemo Paul there was big for us, especially here in Providence.”
He added,
“I’m not going to kill the guys. I think we had a chance to win the game with 178 but with one bowler short and myself having to bowl seven overs, that’s very difficult.”
Mr Pooran, what kind of petit excuse you are making for your loss.
