“If we play good cricket we have a very good chance” Tallawahs head coach, Shivnarine Chanderpaul confident of CPL victory

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2022) has entered its business end as the playoffs will begin from Tuesday (September 27) at Providence, Guyana.

Jamaica Tallawahs will be up against St Lucia Kings in the Eliminator a day later.

Jamaica Tallawahs are placed at the 4th spot in the Men’s Caribbean Premier League 2022 points table with 4 wins and 5 losses from their 10 matches of the league. The team has 9 points.

Brandon King is the top run-scorer for Jamaica Tallawahs with 326 runs at a strike rate of 135. He has struck 16 sixes and 30 fours. Rovman Powell has also made 223 runs at a strike rate of 125.

Mohammad Amir has been the best bowler for Jamaica Tallawahs and has picked up 13 wickets while bowling at an average of 15 and an economy rate of 5.88.

Asked about Tallawah’s chances of getting into the finals, Jamaica Tallawahs head coach, Shivnarine Chanderpaul said,

“If we play good cricket we have a very good chance of winning this tournament.”

Commenting on the increasing popularity of the T20 format of the game, Chanderpaul said it’s a welcome change as people don’t have time for the longer formats.

“They no longer have the time to sit for days and look at the game. They love cricket, and they want to spend a little time watching it but they also work and have families and other responsibilities so now that the game is cut down to three hours, that is perfect for them,” he said.

“They enjoy it- after work, they come to watch cricket, whatever little time they have they can go and watch cricket and that is where it is. This is the format, it’s going to be around forever, I think so. You have to get with the times and I think T-10 is one of the formats that’ll be here to stay also.”
