The spinner has opened up on making a comeback to the national cricket team. While talking about the prospect of making a comeback to the team, he said there are plenty of things that are happening behind the scenes.
His last ODI appearance came in 2016 and his last Test appearance came in 2013. Despite being away from international cricket, he made his presence count by playing T20 cricket across the globe.
Narine has played six Tests, 65 ODIs and 51 T20Is for West Indies. He has taken 21 wickets in the purest format of the game. Narine has taken 92 wickets in ODIs and 52 wickets in T20Is.
“There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on, which I don’t really want to get into, but I mean, everybody would love to represent their country. It’s a hard thing watching them knowing that you want to be part of it and you’re not part of it,” Narine was quoted as saying.
he is pretty much confident that he would make a rebound to the national cricket team in the near future. In fact, he last played for West Indies during a T20I game back in 2019.
“Things happen for a reason and hopefully, in the future, I’ll be wearing maroon again, but until then, I’d still love to play for the Windies. We shall see when that opportunity comes, but there will never be a no for West Indies,” he said.
There is literally no doubt that West Indies have been struggling to produce good results in international cricket.
They recently lost the ODI series by 0-3 against India. Besides that, they lost the first T20I against India.
The second T20I will kick off tonight (8:00 PM IST) at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.
West Indies international Sunil Narine is one of the productive spinners in the shortest format of the game. The right-arm mystery spinner has been involved in several franchise T20 cricket leagues across the world.
Needless to say, he hasn’t secured a spot in the West Indies national cricket team. The right-arm spinner made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in 2011.
