Guyana Amazon Warriors extended their unbeaten run in the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and ensured a spot in Qualifier One with a seven-wicket victory over Jamaica Tallawahs at Providence on Wednesday evening and securing a spot in Qualifier 1.
Their Captian leg-spinner Imran says he is enjoying the challenge of captaincy with the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2023 Caribbean Premier League season.
The 44-year-old, Amazon Warriors team that is in second place in the table on 11 points, with four games to play at home.
Under Tahir’s leadership, the Amazon Warriors have won six straight games, including a seven-wicket victory over Jamaica Tallawahs at Providence on Wednesday evening.
“It has been an absolute honor. I was captain twice before. Life is all about challenges, and that is why I took this challenge. I am really grateful to Dr. Bobby (Dr. Ranjitsingh Ramroop, Amazon Warriors owner), and to President Irfaan Ali for giving me a very big support,” Tahir said at a news conference in Guyana on Tuesday.
“That’s what you need sometimes in life. People trust you, and then you just go and try your best. I just said to myself in my heart that I was going to be a captain. I said not many people take that positively but I will take it positively,” he added.
Tahir said he considers himself very lucky to lead the Amazon Warriors, and added that he has a great squad of players who play from their heart for Guyana.
“I felt some different vibe from previous years. A lot of responsibility is being taken, which is very nice to see.,” the South African leg-spinner said.
“A lot of youngsters have grown into men because I have been playing with them from the start of the CPL,” Tahir added.
Tahir’s team will also face St Lucia Kings (14 September), the Trinbago Knight Riders (16 September), and the Barbados Royals (17 September) during the next five days.
The playoffs will also be played in Guyana from 19-24 September.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors have appeared in five of the 10 CPL finals without winning the title.
