West Indies are on a downward slide now with senior pros like Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, and Sunil Narine no longer with the team. The recent T20 World Cup wasn’t an ideal outing. In a conversation with News18 Media, the 30-year-old talks about West Indies cricket.
Evin Lewis is one of the most explosive batters in our current generation. The West Indian batter has a superb Strike-rate of 152 while batting in T20Is for West Indies and is a nightmare for the bowlers. He is the third batsman to score two Twenty20 International centuries.
Lewis, 30, last played for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2022 and 3-match T20I Series against Australia this year. Before this year’s world cup, he couldn’t make the ability to play for west indies due to fitness-related reasons.
Commenting on the current state of West Indies cricket, Lewis said it may take us some time to get the game back to where it should be but it is a work in progress.
When Interviewer asks “West Indies are on a downward slide now with senior pros like Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, and Sunil Narine no longer with the team. The recent T20 World Cup wasn’t an ideal outing. What’s your take on the current situation?” Lewis Said,
“Umm… you are actually right about that. A lot of senior guys are not actually with the team anymore. As you said before, guys like me and Nicholas Pooran have been around for a while. It is actually upon us now to take care of the mantle.
New guys are coming into the team and it might probably take us some time to be back where we need to be but it’s a work in progress, to be honest.” West Indies star Opener said
Regarding the fact that playing more and more leagues around the world will only benefit the players, Lewis said the most important thing is what the player hopes to gain from these leagues.
“The league is always beneficial. More cricket is actually better as a cricketer. The most important thing is what you look to take from these leagues.
You try not to put too much pressure on yourself when you play international cricket.
International cricket is the highest level but again as a player, you need to ensure to not do anything different and try being relaxed and just do what you have been doing in franchise cricket. It’s just a transition.” he added
When News18 asks, “Is the best of Evin Lewis yet to come? You are one of the few batters to have hit two T20 hundreds…”
“Age brings a bit more experience. I am 30 at the moment, 31 next week. So yeah I am actually looking forward to it.” Lewis concluded
