West Indies captain Shai Hope heaped praises on Evin Lewis after the opening batter smashed an unbeaten hundred to lead his team to an eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 3rd ODI at Pallekele.
Lewis smacked 102 not out off 61 balls and shared partnerships of 71 with Shai Hope (22) and 88 with Sherfane Rutherford (50 not out) in the win.
“He’s an amazing player. It’s great to see him back. He picked up where he left off. I am happy he scored some runs and I hope he can take that form into the next series,” said Hope.
“I think the West Indies play the shorter format the best but Lewis ia a great striker of the ball and it was great to see him. We have been playing good cricket. We need to be more consistent,” he added.
Hope said that West Indies had something to play for in the final game of the series with Sri Lanka already in possession of a 2-0 series lead.
“We didn’t have the best game in the field, so we have to take positives,” he said.
Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka said he was pleased with his team’s performance despite the loss.
“I think the main thing is momentum is on our side—few areas to improve in. I hope to do well in the next series as well. Hopefully, we can stick to a similar lineup going forward,” he said.
West Indies will play England in a three-match ODI series beginning next Thursday in Antigua.
