“Motie is obviously a talented spinner ” – Kraigg Brathwaite “very excited” to See Gudakesh Motie GO ON.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and put Bangladesh in to bat on the opening day of the first test of their two-match series at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Thursday.

West Indies were boosted on the eve of the match by senior paceman Kemar Roach passing a fitness test to take his place in the team as part of a bowling attack that also includes debutant left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie.

The left-arm spinner has played 34 First-Class matches for Guyana and West Indies ‘A’ teams taking 117 wickets with best figures of 6-20.

In the recently concluded West Indies Championship, Motie struck his maiden First-Class century against Barbados, a shot filled 110 to showcase his improving batting prowess.

Brathwaite is anticipating the contribution of newcomers Motie and Thomas.

“Devon has a lot of experience at first-class level (and) he obviously played some international One Day games and he is hungry. From the beginning of the (Cricket West Indies four-day) season this year I was very impressed with how he went about his batting and even outside of cricket seeing him put in the work. I thought that was good.”

Giving his thoughts on Motie, Brathwaite said,

“Motie is obviously a talented spinner. It was great to see him get a hundred, obviously unfortunate it was against my team but it was good to see him getting runs.”

Motie made his international debut when he played a T20 international against Pakistan at Karachi in December 16, 2021.

Motie scored a century playing for Guyana Harpy Eagles against Barbados Pride in the West Indies Four-Day Championship recently.
