Legendary batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul reckoned that his son, Tagenarine, won’t find it easy in West Indies’ ongoing Test series against Australia.
West Indies opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of the country legend Shivnarine Chandrapaul, made his debut for the national side in the opening Test of the two-match series against Australia on Wednesday.
Shivnarine said that if his son manages some useful knocks on Australian soil, then it would help him grow in his career.
“It’s not going to be easy in Australia. No other team has come here and done well. If you can do well against Australia, it is going to be a feather in his cap, and probably help him to propel his career,” Chanderpaul was quoted as saying to icc-cricket.com.
Chanderpaul played 11 Tests in Australia from 1996 to 2009, where he scored 604 runs at an average of 30.20 with five half-centuries and a top score of 82 to show for his efforts.
“I used to love playing against Australia, especially in the beginning of the year, because they push to raise your standards and if you can do well against them throughout the year, you will do well, because you’re playing at a different level,” he stated.
“If he can get a start and do well out here, it will help him with his career.”
Chanderpaul reckoned that Tagenarine is someone, who wouldn’t give his wicket away and would show a lot of patience in the middle.
“He’s one of those guys who, when he gets a chance to get in, he’ll try and bat long. There are a few other things he can work on, but he’s got an opportunity now and hopefully he can grab it,” Chanderpaul added.
After the Perth Test, the last match of the series will be played from December 8. The match will be played at Adelaide Oval.
